The 36-year-old is currently completing his first course for a B license with the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) and would like to start coaching the under-19s at his current club, LASK in Austria.

"A lot of great coaches, like Thomas Tuchel, started as assistant coaches with the youngsters. I want to gain experience there, learn, but also pass on my experience to the younger players," Boateng told Sport1 about his first steps as a coach.

At the BFV course, Boateng is the most prominent of 22 current and former professional footballers preparing to become coaches.

"It is certainly a good foundation if you have played football at a high level," club coach Philipp Roper is quoted as saying.

"But being a good player does not automatically make you a good coach."

Boateng is under contract in Linz until mid-2026.
