When the Apertura 2021 began, much was said about the probable departure of Roger Martínez to Boca Juniors.
In the end, the economic offer was not enough for the board of América and the Colombian stayed, scoring three goals in 14 appearances this season.
Now, according to Argentine journalist Sebastián Vignolo, should Boca Juniors manage to win the Copa Argentina final, they will try again to sign the América striker in order to boost their Copa Libertadores chances.
Of course, the champion of the tournament qualifies for the Copa Libertadores group stage – something that Boca Juniors have not managed to do just yet domestically.
With just six games left in the regular season, Boca are still in sixth place in the aggregate table, meaning the Copa Argentina final represents Boca’s best chance to reach the tournament.
Talleres and Godoy Cruz face off in the other Copa Argentina semi-final. Should River Plate win the league (as expected) and Talleres claim the Copa, Boca would still qualify for the Copa Libertadores by finishing in the top-six.
