Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano sang praise about rising star Santiago Castro amid talks he could join Inter in the next transfer window. During a comprehensive interview with Sport Mediaset via TMW, Italiano lauded the young gun’s potential, discussing his potential to become one of Serie A’s standout performers.
“Let’s not forget he’s just turned twenty,” the Bologna boss said. “He’s a boy who, given how he trains, his hunger, and the desire he puts into training, can really become a top player.
“He’s showing the qualities of a true center-forward, but he also adds great sacrifices for the team and often has the ability to make himself available for everyone. I’m convinced he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Widely considered one of Serie A’s brightest prospects, Castro has taken advantage of Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer to Manchester United to establish himself as a first-team star at Bologna. Though Thijs Dallinga recently leapfrogged them in the pecking order, he’s still heavily linked with Inter.
Inter will part ways with Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa at the end of the season. Both players have expiring contracts, and the club is seemingly reluctant to offer them fresh terms. Therefore, the reigning Scudetto holders are in the market for a new striker, with the Bologna starlet emerging as one of their primary targets.
Castro joined Bologna from Velez Sarsfield last January. After playing a bit-part role under former manager Thiago Motta, the 20-year-old center-forward has enjoyed a rise to stardom under Italiano, and the Rossoblu could make a substantial profit from his sale.
