Inter have set sights on Santiago Castro to refresh their frontline and keep up their Argentinian tradition, but they’ll have to empty their coffers to convince Bologna to part ways with their striker, Il Resto Del Carlino reports.

The Nerazzurri already approached the Felsinei in January. They offered €20/25M plus Kristjan Asllani but were rebuffed. The Rossoblù paid €12M to get him from Velez in January 2023. They got ready in advance for Joshua Zirkzee’s eventual departure.

Inter are poised for a hard negotiation because Bologna believe Castro is already as valuable as the Dutchman and Riccardo Calafiori. They transferred to Manchester United and Arsenal for €42.5M and €50M respectively.

The marksman has made Argentina’s provisional squad for the next friendlies against Uruguay and Brazil. It’d be his first call-up. He was supposed to play in the Olympics, as he has 13 caps with the U-23 Seleccion. His club preferred keeping him in town for the pre-season preparation. He has notched 10 goals and 9 assists in 44 matches with the Emilian side.

Our Take on Inter and Castro

The comparison with Lautaro Martinez is all too easy, especially the first version of El Toro, where he was still a tweener between a no.9 and a second-striker. The Bologna man is actually a better distributor, but not as polished in the box. Time is on his side. The Felsinei centerpieces have inevitably drawn the attention of the Serie A powerhouses, as their side is open to cashing and doesn’t clip anybody’s wings but generally does so at a premium. He’ll end up abroad in a couple of years if that’s really the request.
