Daniele Bonera made some interesting comments after his Milan Futuro side were well beaten 3-0 by Ternana in the league on Sunday.
The Futuro’s winless run in Serie C was extended to six games on Sunday afternoon as promotion-seeking Ternana prevailed 3-0. Seeing as Ignazio Abate is the manager of the team, it’s a defeat that hurts a little extra for the Rossoneri.
While Bonera has Abate to thank for developing a lot of the players that he continues to use at present, he cannot thank him for the way that his team were dismantled yesterday.
The gap in age and ultimately quality was obvious to anyone watching, and a reminder how tough this season is going to be as the Futuro continue to battle to stay in the division.
Bonera spoke to the reporters present at his post-match press conference to answer questions about what was a difficult evening for his side. MilanNews shared his comments.
Why did you bring Alex Jimenez and Davide Bartesaghi off?
“I changed Jimenez and Bartesaghi because this is a project for the first team. Alex had to play 45 minutes and Bartesaghi 60, to get them ready for the first team coach.
“Today the nine-year difference in age on the pitch was felt, in this league you also need to have experienced players who help the team.”
You’ve known Abate for a long time…
“Many of the guys who are with me today grew up with him. He is doing very well here with a team that I consider one of the candidates to win the category. I wish him the best of luck”.
Did you expect Ternana to play like this?
“I thought something could change, but we were prepared knowing Abate who is continuing the work done here previously. We are a bit immature in the specific situations of the match.”

In Milan’s best spell, Ternana doubled their lead…
“Going 2-0 up in the 60th minute is not easy, we could have equalised shortly before, it’s part of our journey, I will try to make people understand that there are situations that repeat themselves, the sooner we get into the boys’ heads, the sooner we will achieve results.”
The fans protested against the idea of second teams in Serie C…
“I speak for the situation that I live every day, there are players who have debuted in the Champions League and in Serie A, there is satisfaction in preparing the kids for football for adults. I don’t know anything else and I’ll stop here.”
