Inter Milan defenders Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard will be part of the Nerazzurri’s squad for the Supercoppa Italiana.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that the duo’s fitness will be assessed in Saudi Arabia.
Inter travel to Saudi Arabia next week. As with last season, that is where the Supercoppa Italiana will take place.
And as with last campaign, it will be a four-team mini-tournament.
Inter face Atalanta in the semifinal of the competition next Thursday. Then, Juventus and AC Milan take each other on in the other semifinal.
It will be a tough challenge for the Nerazzurri. And so Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be keen to have a strong squad available.
In the last few weeks, Inzaghi has been without two regular starters in defense.
36-year-old former Lazio and Sassuolo defender Acerbi picked up a thigh strain in a Serie A match against Hellas Verona last month.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old former Bayern Munich man Pavard suffered a thigh strain of his own against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
In the case of Pavard, it has always been clear that the Frenchman would take a few weeks to recover and return to the pitch.
Meanwhile, Acerbi’s recovery process has dragged on longer than expected.
But both defenders are nearing returns.
Therefore, Inzaghi plans to bring both to Saudi Arabia with the rest of the squad. Then, he will see whether they have the fitness to play in the Supercoppa.
