KV Mechelen have been plagued by injuries so far this season. One player who picked up a knock last year and has not featured at all for months is young winger Bill Antonio. The 22-year-old from Zimbabwe was one of the sides big discoveries of the 2023/2024 season, with his attacking play a joy to watch. However, a serious injury has meant he has been sidelined for a while. On Sunday, Antonio made his long awaited return to action. He played just half an hour in a 4-0 win over Beveren. While only a friendly, it will certainly be a boost for Mechelen knowing that the winger may be able to contribute before the season is out.

Last year, Antonio scored three goals in 12 games and has been capped at senior level by the Zimbabwe national team. Mechelen are hoping of reaching the top six and could do with recovering as many players from injury as possible. When fully fit, the squad looks in decent shape with quality in key areas. However, Besnik Hasi has had his hands tied too often this season with players unable to feature. He has asked the club to bring in some reinforcements this winter, and they are clearly one of the more active Belgian sides in the market.
