Marwin Hitz looks set to miss the rest of the season for Borussia Dortmund after sustaining a knee injury in Saturday’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig.
The goalkeeper was forced off on the stroke of half time at Signal Iduna Park and replaced by Swiss compatriot Roman Bürki.
Dortmund confirmed the diagnosis via Twitter on Sunday.
The club offered no information about Hitz’s expected recovery time, but Ruhr Nachrichtenhe reported that the 33-year-old will play no further part this season.
That means the St Gallen native is likely to miss Thursday’s DFB Pokal final against Leipzig in Berlin, as well as the remaining Bundesliga ties with Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen.
BVB will guarantee themselves a spot in next season’s Champions League if they win both those matches.
