Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha will miss several weeks with a ligament injury picked up at the weekend.
Nmecha went off in the first half in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen at the weekend after a challenge from Bremen forward Marco Grüll.
Tests have revealed that Nmecha has suffered a serious ligament injury but the all-important cruciate ligament was not damaged meaning the midfielder will only be out for several weeks.
In Nmecha’s place, Dortmund have Emre Can, Pascal Groß and even Marcel Sabitzer can play in the number six position. On top of this, Dortmund academy product Kjell Wätjen could be given more game time as at the beginning of the season he was promised more senior minutes but has only made two brief appearances this season in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund is currently 11th in the Bundesliga, without a head coach, and the club is currently imploding. An extra injury to a key player in an injury-prone squad just makes matters worse.
