Brahim 6, Vinicius 9 | Osasuna 1-1 Real Madrid – Player ratings

Real Madrid suffered their third winless result on the bounce in La Liga against Osasuna as they were held to a 1-1 draw at El Sadar on matchday 24. Kylian Mbappe’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Ante Budimir’s penalty in the second half. In spite of their best efforts in the second period, a ten-man team was unable to clinch all three points after Jude Bellingham’s red card in the first 45.
The result, coupled with Atletico Madrid’s draw versus Celta Vigo, means the Whites retain a one-point lead at the top of the league table nonetheless. But if Barcelona manage to defeat Rayo Vallecano on Monday evening, the arch-rivals could be level with Hansi Flick’s troops leading on goal difference. For now, however, Real will switch focus to the Champions League.
Manchester City visit the Santiago Bernabeu for the midweek game as they look to overturn a 3-2 deficit from last week’s first leg, whereas Los Blancos will look to propel themselves into the last 16 in front of their home support. Having said that, here is a look at the player ratings from the Osasuna fixture before looking ahead to the European Cup clash.
Goalkeeper – Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
Courtois made two brilliant saves in the first half to ensure Osasuna did not lead but in the broader scheme of things, he was less busy than usual.
Right Back – Federico Valverde – 8/10
Another brilliant performance at full back from Valverde, who assisted the team’s only goal of the afternoon. He also had Bryan Zaragoza in check for the better part of the game.
Centre Back – Aurelien Tchouameni – 7/10
Tchouameni had a decent game in the back four but was barely called into action for the majority of the match. In either case, he won a few aerial duels and played the ball out nicely from the back.
Centre Back – Raul Asencio – 7/10
Like his partner, Asencio also had little to do in the game but impressed on the handful of occasions he was called into action as he closed out Budimir quickly whenever he got the ball.
Left Back – Fran Garcia – 7.5/10
He supported Vinicius well in the offensive department and had Ruben Garcia’s number for most of the game. As with other Real Madrid defenders, he had a less busy game.
Defensive Midfielder – Eduardo Camavinga – 7.5/10
Camavinga was busy for most of the game as he carried the ball forward when building from the back as well as helping recover the ball. He was unfortunate to have conceded the penalty.
Right Midfielder – Luka Modric – 8/10
A very good performance from Modric as he completed 97% of his passes and created four big chances for the team’s attackers along with conducting play from midfield.
Left Midfielder – Jude Bellingham – 7.5/10
Unfairly sent off after just 40 minutes on the pitch though Bellingham looked decent when he was in action. He won the ball which led to the team’s only goal of the game.
Right Winger – Brahim Diaz – 6/10
A game to forget for Brahim who was physically not up to the task and did not look to impressive on the ball. A small blip for the Moroccan, who has been decent otherwise.
Striker – Kylian Mbappe – 7.5/10
Mbappe’s 25th goal of the season opened the proceedings for the game which Real Madrid would have expected to win. He got into good shooting positions but failed to take chances, including one which he would be expected to score from close range.
Left Winger – Vinicius Junior – 9/10
The best Real Madrid player on the pitch as he looked a million dollars from the word go, and particularly in the second half, all the offensive plays flowed through Vinicius who was fabulous all-round. Unlucky to not have scored from a brilliant dribble in the second half.
Substitute – Rodrygo Goes – 6/10
Rodrygo was on the pitch for the last 20 minutes and did not do much good work. He looked fatigued and understandably so considering the game time he has had under his belt lately.
