The last time his team dropped an away match against an underdog opponent, German national team attacker Julian Brandt famously grumbled that playing for BVB was "simply no fun" and "as worse as I can remember". The 28-year-old's mood naturally didn't improve much after Dortmund again failed away from home against a league team they were heavily favored to defeat on Saturday afternoon.

After commenting on captain Emré Can's red card, Brandt took care to emphasize that "we can play better, even with ten men". When it came time to again talk about how Dortmund simply can't seem to execute away from Signal Iduna Park, the often eloquent Brandt described the current situation with some metaphorical flair.

"We're spinning down a vortex," Brandt told Sky Germany, "It must be a goal of ours to break this spell as I have absolutely no interest in returning from cities with a defeat packed in my luggage. It's a pain in the ass and feels genuinely terrible."
