A Brazil Football Federation (CBF) emissary traveled to Seville to meet Carlo Ancelotti in the wake of Real Madrid’s loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, as the Italian coach is reportedly closing in on an agreement with the five-time World Cup winners.

Diego Fernandes has been in talks with the former Milan manager for months on behalf of the CBF, which is now entering a crucial stage of negotiations to persuade the 65-year-old to join the Seleção as soon as possible.

Brazil push to finalise Ancelotti deal as two start dates emerge

According to Relevo, Fernandes was in Seville to attend the Copa del Rey final, with a second meeting with Ancelotti planned for the following day, after the two had already had lunch together following Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal.

While there is reportedly a “total agreement” on contract terms between Ancelotti and Brazil, nothing has been signed yet, out of respect for Real Madrid.

The two scenarios presented by the CBF would require the coach to step away from his current role and start either in May or after June 30th — in the first case, Ancelotti would forgo coaching Los Blancos in the Club World Cup, as well as the final year of his contract.

Ancelotti’s future at the Santiago Bernabéu has become increasingly uncertain after his side’s elimination from the Champions League and their recent 4-3 extra-time defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, with two chances of silverware slipping away.

As a result, the Italian coach could be willing to bring his Real Madrid tenure to an end, leading Relevo to claim that, if nothing goes wrong, he is getting closer and closer to becoming the new coach of Brazil.
