Carlos Augusto is ready to make his return to the Inter Milan starting eleven next week against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Brazilian will be on the bench against Hellas Verona tomorrow.
Brazilian international Augusto has been out with injury for around a month.
The former Monza man picked up an injury in Inter’s Champions League match against Young Boys last month.
The match was played in Switzerland, on Young Boys’s artificial pitch. That may have played a factor in Augusto picking up his injury.
The Brazilian made a sprint in the penalty area. However, as he rapidly accelerated and then slowed down it became apparent that he had moved awkwardly and hurt his thigh muscle.
Tests confirmed a thigh strain for Augusto. Therefore, the 25-year-old missed Inter’s subsequent Serie A matches against Juventus, Empoli, Venezia, and Napoli, as well as their clash with Arsenal in the Champions League.
Augusto has made his return to fitness during the international break, however.
This is a major boost for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
The Nerazzurri coach has been having to come up with solutions on the flanks, an area of the pitch where squad rotation, fitness, and regular substitutions always test the squad depth.
It had been Matteo Darmian who had frequently featured at left-wingback for Inter prior to the international break.
But with Augusto back – and Tajon Buchanan also fit and having played for Canada during the break – Inzaghi once again has a full pack in the wingback positions.
That does not mean that Augusto will start right away in Inter’s first match back from the break, though,
Inter take on Hellas Verona tomorrow in their first Serie A match back.
According to the Gazzetta, Italian international Federico Dimarco will hold down his spot in the starting eleven for that match.
However, the outlet anticipate, Augusto will start Inter’s next match. Inter face RB Leipzig in the Champions League next Tuesday.
Augusto has gotten regular chances in the Champions league this season.
The Brazilian had started against the likes of Manchester City and Red Star Belgrade.
