Manchester United have received a massive transfer boost in their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Mbeumo has been identified as a prime target for Man United, especially given their need for capable forwards next season.
Although Matheus Cunha and Patrik Schick appear to be linked with a move to Old Trafford as well, Mbeumo provides a higher level of versatility than many of his counterparts.
A proven goal scorer with 18 goals in the Premier League this season, Mbeumo is the fifth highest scorer in the entire league to date.
What’s more, he frequently plays as both a centre-forward and a right-winger for Brentford, meaning that he could effectively slot in anywhere in United’s attacking lineup where manager Ruben Amorim would need him to be.
Now, it appears as if United could be closer than ever to signing the Cameroonian if his current club captain’s intuition proves to be true.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Brentford captain Christian Norgaard revealed what he expects Mbeumo’s future to look like.
“I think Bryan is likely to go,” he admitted during the interview.
“I don’t know about Wissa yet. Everyone hopes that he might stay. Either way, I’m happy for the season and am happy for both of them. They deserve it so much.”
Norgaard indicated that his viewpoint is a logical one given the trend for Brentford’s top attackers to move on after establishing themselves in the team.
“I’m pretty calm about what will happen with Bryan and Wissa,” he explained. “A lot of questions are asked about them and you can almost feel the worries around the players, when you talk about them maybe leaving us. I was one [of them] when we were losing Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma, Ivan Toney. So it continues.”
With the Brentford camp seemingly making peace with Mbeumo’s inevitable departure at some point in the future, the remaining challenge for United is to convince the forward that they are his best possible destination over any other.
Chelsea are believed to have entered the race for Mbeumo, meaning that United may have to act fast to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
