Brentford could be without their captain Pontus Jansson for the remainder of the season.

The Bees manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that a hamstring injury could keep the centre-back out of action for weeks.

Jansson was forced to withdraw from action during Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

The Sweden international has played only 12 Premier League games this term.

However, his absence will be a huge blow given his influence on the pitch.

Jansson played six games before suffering a hamstring injury last October.

The injury kept him out until the post-World Cup break, and he could have played his last game of the campaign.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and it is unknown what the future holds.

Brentford would love to hand him a new deal and talks are still ongoing between both parties.

The Bees are ninth in the Premier League with eight games left in the campaign.

They are eyeing a place in one of the European competitions and will need a strong finish to qualify.

Brentford have won just one of their last six league games.

The dip in form has affected their chances of finishing in the top six.

They need to quickly turn things around and will have to do so without Jansson.

He joined them from Leeds United in 2019 and has featured in 115 games since then.

Brentford could do with their captain during the crucial run-in and will hope he can return to action before the season ends.
