As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Brentford have submitted a new bid worth in excess of €40m for Fiorentina’s Nicolás ‘Nico’ González.

It is understood that the bid is worth close to €42-43m, whilst The Bees have offered the Argentine a ‘huge’ salary, as they look to secure a deal after their initial opening bid was rejected by the Italian club two weeks ago.

Following an impressive few seasons in Germany with Stuttgart, the 25-year-old signed for La Viola for €24.5m in July 2021, and has gone to have two influential seasons for the club since- scoring 14 and assiting eight in his 58 Serie A appearances.

Furthermore, capable of playing on either wing and boasting excellent aerial ability at just 5’11”, the left-footed forward has also demonstrated his attacking ability in European competition too- as his five goals and two assists in 10 starts were crucial in helping Vincenzo Italiano’s side reach the Europa Conference League final last season; which they narrowly lost 2-1 to David Moyes’ West Ham.

Brentford’s bid for Gonzalez comes as they look to bolster their attacking threat in the absence of Ivan Toney, who is set to return in January 2024 following the completion of his eight-month ban by the FA for betting offences.

Meanwhile, if it were to go through, it would mark the fourth new signing at The Gtech Community Stadium this summer, with Mark Flekken and Nathan Collins both having arrived, whilst, following his six-month loan spell at the London club last season, Kevin Schade has signed for a potential club-record fee from from Freiburg- as Thomas Frank’s side aim to improve upon their remarkable ninth place finish in the Premier League last season.
