New signing set to be in squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener
Brentford will be without Josh Dasilva and summer signing Igor Thiago when they host Crystal Palace in their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday.
Thiago was signed from Club Brugge for £30million this summer in a deal initially agreed in February, and is intended to be Ivan Toney’s replacement in the event of the England striker leaving the club.
However, he suffered a serious meniscus injury during pre-season and won’t play until later this year.
Dasilva, meanwhile, suffered an ACL injury in April after he had only just recovered from a serious hamstring injury sustained last August. He could therefore be out until as late as early 2025.
Late decisions will be made as to whether full-backs Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey are fit to play. Both were injured last season as Henry suffered a second career ACL injury in September, while Hickey was out with a long-term hamstring problem.
Fabio Carvalho is yet to feature for Brentford since joining from Liverpool but is fit and could be involved against Palace in some capacity.
Predicted Brentford XI: Flekken; Collins, Pinnock, Ajer; Roerslev, Jensen, Norgaard, Lewis-Potter; Mbeumo, Toney, Schade
Injuries: Thiago, Dasilva
Doubts: Hickey, Henry
Time and date: 2pm BST, Sunday August 18, 2024
Venue: Gtech Community Stadium
