Brest won’t trigger Bordeaux loanee Alberth Elis’ permanent option at the end of the season, according to a report from Sud-Ouest this week. The Honduran international joined the Brittany side on a €500k loan this winter from Les Girondins, who were relegated to Ligue 2 last season. However, Elis’ performances with Les Ty-Zeffs did not live up to expectations. He has played in 13 games with Brest, but only started two of those with the Eric Roy-led side. He has failed to register a single goal contribution with Stade Brestois.
Sud-Ouest report that the €5.15m purchase option included in the loan move would have been triggered were Brest to keep their Ligue 1 status. The Brittany side is set to reach that objective with three games left to play. Elis would also have to play a minimal amount of game time, but the Honduran international has failed to tick this box. The forward is tied to Bordeaux on a contract set to expire in 2026. It remains to be seen whether Bordeaux would transfer list Elis or rely on him should the club complete their return to Ligue 1 – they currently sit in second place. Bordeaux are second in the Ligue 2 standings with three games left to play.
