LAFC transferred the forward to Club America for a reported $6m, with the MLS club retaining 20 percent of his rights.

Rodriguez departs the Black & Gold after three seasons, managing eight goals and 12 assists in 55 games. He played an integral part in the team’s 2019 Supporters’ Shield run, and propelled LAFC to first in the Western Conference this season.

“Brian has been an important contributor to our success since his arrival in 2019,” LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington said in a release. “He is an exciting player who is capable of special things, which we witnessed many times. We wish him all the best in this opportunity with Club America.”

He now joins the Liga MX giants as they sit in fourth on the 2022 Apertura table after winning their last five matches. His arrival gives head coach Fernando Ortiz another option in the wing, as Rodriguez competes with Alejandro Zendejas for the starting spot.

But Rodriguez will look to earn minutes with Club America to fight for a World Cup roster slot, after missing out on Uruguay’s qualifiers and 2022 friendlies.

The forward first debuted with Uruguay in 2019, but has since failed to retain a starting position. But the move might catch the attention of Uruguay head coach Diego Alonso. The manager is no stranger to Liga MX action, previously coached Pachuca and Monterrey.
