Brighton come from behind to record draw with Manchester United | OneFootball

Forward Nikita Parris scored against her former club as Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind to record a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the Amex Stadium this afternoon.

Grace Clinton’s early goal gave the visitors a first half lead before Parris levelled matters for Brighton & Hove Albion in-front of a club-record crowd of 8,369.

Manchester United’s first chance came in the eighth minute. Hinata Miyazawa sent a low effort towards goal, but home keeper Sophie Baggaley prevented her from breaking the deadlock.

The Red Devils took the lead two minutes later when Clinton met Celin Bizet Ildhusøy’s cross at the near post and she slotted her effort past Baggaley. The game’s opening goal marked the third time that the player has netted so far this season.

Clinton was close to doubling her side’s advantage in the 13th minute but her shot hit the bar.

Brighton & Hove Albion looked to equalise from their first chance of the game, a wide effort from substitute Madison Haley. The shot forced Manchester United keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce into action at the end of a quiet first half.

Following a frustrating first period, Brighton & Hove Albion equalised in the 52nd minute when Parris’ header found the top-left corner of Tullis-Joyce’s goal.

In the 80th minute, Clinton looked to find Elisabeth Terland in-front of goal, but her long pass was met by Baggaley, who was quick to prevent the visitors from regaining their advantage.

Breaking through the Manchester United defence, Fran Kirby came close to finding a winner for The Seagulls in the final minutes. She aimed for the middle of the goal and her shot was caught by Tullis-Joyce.

Both sides pushed to find the game’s third goal in five minutes of stoppage time, but the scoreline remained at 1-1 as the spoils were shared.

Following the international break, Manchester United will play host to Arsenal while Brighton & Hove Albion also have a home game against Leicester City.
