Manchester United's dismal 2024/25 campaign could be on the cusp of receiving a massive shot in the arm as they lead Athletic Club by three goals to nil at half-time.
The much-anticipated semi-final clash between the two sides has, thus far, proven to be a one-sided affair as Ruben Amorim's outfit took the lead through Casemiro before a brace from star man Bruno Fernandes in the wake of Daniel Vivian's red card has likely put the club out of sight on the night if not also the tie.
Though given a man advantage, Fernandes still has proven just how good he has been for United in critical moments since arriving from Sporting CP during the January window across the 2019/20 season.
Since then, the mercurial Portuguese midfielder has been every bit of the player Red Devils fans would have hoped for, including during their European adventures, with the 30-year-old now the first player in Europa League history to register 30+ goal contributions during the knockout stages.
Moreover, Fernandes can look ahead at Liverpool icon Mohamed Salah's 56 as the only competitor for goal contributions at Premier League clubs in all competitions this term.
Can he lead United to major honours despite their painful campaign?
