Arsenal star Bukayo Saka will not travel with the England squad to Finland after picking up an injury against Greece.

The 23-year-old was spotted in some discomfort and holding the back of his right before he was substituted off the pitch in the 2-1 defeat at Wembley on Thursday.

Interim manager Lee Carsley confirmed after the game that Saka was “being assessed” after he “felt something in his leg.”

Carsley is evidently not taking any risks with the player’s fitness, as the winger will remain in England while the squad flies out, as will Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

“Curtis Jones and Bukayo Saka will not travel to Finland,” an FA statement read on Saturday, the day before the Three Lions take on Finland in Helsinki in the Uefa Nations League.

“Saka has returned to Arsenal for further assessment having been substituted during the second-half of Thursday night’s match against Greece.

“Liverpool’s Jones remains in England owing to a personal commitment.

“A squad of 22 will now fly to Helsinki on Saturday afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Nations League fixture.”

Saka is now a doubt for next weekend’s trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League, but Arsenal will be hopeful he will be available for their hugely important clash with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the month.

An extended absence would be a major blow for the Gunners, who are already missing Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Jurrien Timber due to muscular issues.

The trio are spending the international break rehabbing their respective injury problems, while Kai Havertz and Thomas Partey also remained in north London due to minor concerns.
