According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich are doing everything they can to keep hold of Joshua Kimmich, despite Barcelona’s interest.

The German international, whose contract with Bayern expires in 2025, has been identified as a key target for Barça, particularly as he could be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, Bayern Munich are determined to prevent that from happening and are working hard to renew his contract. The club’s president, Herbert Hainer, expressed his desire for Kimmich to finish his career at Bayern, emphasising how valuable the player is to the team.

Kimmich’s versatility and leadership qualities make him one of Barcelona’s prime targets to bolster their squad for the next season.

Given that his contract expires in 2025, the possibility of him leaving for free next summer is something Bayern Munich are keen to avoid.

Talks between Kimmich and Bayern regarding a contract extension will need to resume soon. Hainer made it clear during a recent interview that the club is eager to keep the player.

After Kimmich was named the new captain of the German national team, Hainer praised him and sent a clear message about his importance to Bayern’s future.

He reiterated his desire for Kimmich to stay with Bayern, saying, “I would be happy if he finished his career at Bayern. But not next year, but many, many years later.”

This statement underscores Bayern’s intention to keep Kimmich well beyond the end of his current contract.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are reportedly looking at both Kimmich and his compatriot, Jonathan Tah, as potential free transfers for next season.

While Tah has already confirmed that he will not extend his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich are determined not to lose Kimmich without a fight.
