Wolves have been linked with a move involving Burnley this summer ahead of the 30 August deadline

Wolves are not interested in pursuing a move for Burnley defender Maxime Esteve this summer.

According to Liam Keen, the Premier League side have not shortlisted the centre-back as part of their August transfer plans.

Esteve’s future at Turf Moor has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer, but no move has yet to materialise.

The 22-year-old initially joined the Lancashire outfit last January on loan from Montpellier, before making the deal permanent earlier in the summer.

He made 16 appearances in the Premier League for the Clarets as the team suffered relegation to the Championship with a 19th place finish (all stats from Fbref).

Wolves are not interested in the signing of Esteve this summer, with Gary O’Neil keen to bolster his defensive options.

Despite the desire to improve in that area, reports of a pursuit of the Burnley defender are thought to be wide of the mark.

Wolves had been mentioned as an interested club earlier this month, with uncertainty surrounding his future at Turf Moor.

West Ham and Everton were both previously linked with a move for the Frenchman at the start of the transfer window, but no concrete offer has yet to be tabled.

It remains to be seen whether either club will make a formal approach, with time now running out on teams to get transfers completed.

We are now in the final month of the summer window, with the market set to shut until 1 January on 30 August. It is unclear what kind of asking price Burnley have set on Esteve, who only joined the club earlier this year.

The Clarets will be hoping that the player can be a part of Scott Parker’s side this season as they eye an immediate return to the Premier League.

Burnley’s 2024 summer transfer business

Burnley have already made a number of additions to the side so far this summer, with the club looking to build a team capable of automatic promotion.

Esteve joined on a permanent basis after his loan spell, as has Mike Tresor from KRC Genk.

Andréas Hountondji and Lucas Pires have also signed on a permanent basis, from SM Caen and Santos respectively. Meanwhile, Shurandy Sambo and Vaclav Hladky have also arrived, signing for the club as free agents.

However, the likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Arijanet Muric and Charlie Taylor are among the players to depart since the club suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Esteve boost for Parker

This will come as a boost for Parker, even if Burnley do have an abundance of centre-back options going into the new season. Esteve has top flight experience in both England and France, and is still only 22-years-of-age.

He is someone that still has room to develop and improve as a player, and could become a very valuable asset to the squad over time.

Losing him to Premier League opposition so soon would be a hit to the team, and they should instead focus on offloading other players from defence first before considering a sale of the Frenchman.
