West Ham appear to be closing in on the signing of Brian Brobbey from Ajax.

The Dutch international is now regarded as the top target for the club currently this January transfer window, with our insider Gonzo providing the latest on the pursuit of the striker.

“Romano has backed down on the Brobbey to Spurs rumour now,” stated Gonzo on Hammers Chat Patreon. “As mentioned earlier, it was a smokescreen, probably by Ajax to get the fee up.

“I’m sticking to my guns on this one and really not a lot has changed since the early update. The club are pursuing this deal far harder than any other transfer this window.

“The update this morning by the club which denied the deal spooked a few but as I said earlier . . . My source has been really good on this stuff.

“Can’t say for certain because I’m not in the negotiations personally but . . . This deal has a different feel about it and I have been buzzing since I found out.
