According to RNBVB, some German U21 players who will be playing in the U21 Euros in early June are expected to be left out of the squad. As the outlet reported, the exclusion of these players is due to the conflicted schedule with the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held around the same time as the under-21 competition.

In terms of how they will influence Borussia Dortmund, the club decided to cancel Maxi Beier's participation in the U21 European Championship. Similar to the former Hoffenheim man, the same applies to potential U21 players who are eligible for selection even though they have featured in the National Team previously.

That is the case of players like Karim Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko. The first was part of the German squad that played both Nations League quarterfinal matches against Italy, while the latter is currently on loan at OGC Nice until the end of the season. However, neither player will necessarily be at Dortmund next season. Adeyemi attracts interest from several clubs, and Moukoko could also be departing following his frustrating loan spell at Nice.

The FIFA Club World Cup will be held between June and July in the United States, which is around the same timeframe as the Euros under-21, which will be held in Slovakia. BVB features in Group F with Brazilian side Fluminense, Ulsan HD from South Korea, and South African Mamelodi Sundowns FC. At the same time, Germany u-21 competes against Czechia, England, and Slovenia in Group B.
