Hakan Calhanoglu and Simone Inzaghi have plea bargained a one-game suspension for their involvement in the inquiry looking into the shady relationships between Inter, Milan, and their hardcore supporters, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The punishment has been automatically reduced by half since those accused agreed not to go to trial. They admitted to violating Article 25 of the rulebook, which forbids meeting groups of fans who aren’t part of associations formally affiliated with the clubs, and Article 4, which in general mandates following the principles of loyalty, correctness, and honesty.
Calhanoglu and Inzaghi will be disqualified as Inter will take on Verona on Saturday. The other sanctions are monetary. The Turk will pay a €30k fine, the coach a €15k one. Inter have been levied a €70k penalty, as five of their representatives had illicit contacts, while Milan a €30k one.
Vice president Javier Zanetti, Claudio Sala, and Massimiliano Silva are the Nerazzurri officials facing discipline. Giuseppe Marotta was questioned but cleared his position, motivating his summits with public safety reasons. Despite the claims by the supporters, there have been no confirmations about gifted tickets, especially for the Champions League final in 2023. Had it happened, it would have been a different and more severe infraction.
Instead, Calhanoglu admitted to convening with the leaders of the Curva a few times on his own, going against the team’s advice, same as Inzaghi, who did it fewer times. A few of the Ultras are suspected of having ties with the ‘Ndrangheta and orchestrating the killing of Andrea Bellocco. Davide Calabria turned down the plea bargain and could be referred.
