10-man Real Madrid clinched a vital La Liga win over Deportivo Alaves on matchday 31 of La Liga at the Estadio de Mendizorroza. A beautiful strike from Eduardo Camavinga in the first half made the difference for Los Blancos, who deservedly earned a hard-fought success having gone three matches without a victory while also keeping their first clean sheet in all competitions since February.

Kylian Mbappe was sent off in the 38th minute of the match, which meant the Whites had to play a fair chunk of the match without their primary goal-scorer. Before they turn their attentions to the Champions League fixture against Arsenal, here is a look at how the Whites’ players fared against Alaves.

Player Ratings

Thibaut Courtois – 7/10

Courtois had six saves to make in the match though most of them were very easy as Alaves struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities.

Lucas Vazquez – 7.5/10

A very good display by Vazquez, who had an 89% passing accuracy and created two chances. More importantly, he looked stable defensively as he won two tackles and made three recoveries.

Raul Asencio – 7/10

Asencio had a goal disallowed by VAR. He looked good defensively and made a very important interception in the first half to deny the hosts a chance at goal.

Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10

As with Asencio, Rudiger put in a disciplined and uneventful display at the back. He made an unnecessary foul on the other end of the pitch, however, which resulted in Asencio’s goal get chalked off.

Fran Garcia – 7/10

Fran Garcia made four clearances and three interceptions. After Mbappe’s sending off, he was largely limited to staying behind as opposed to making offensive runs.

Aurelien Tchouameni – 7.5/10

Tchouameni helped control play from a deeper-lying position while also cutting out a number of Alaves’ cross-field balls. He had a 90% passing accuracy and won 12 duels.

Eduardo Camavinga – 8.5/10

Camavinga was almost everywhere on the pitch as he carried the ball forward a number of times in the game with his quick dribbling. He also scored the match-winning goal for Real Madrid, his first in La Liga in over three years.

Federico Valverde – 7.5/10

Valverde linked play between the midfielders and forwards very nicely, whilst also getting the assist in the game. He was solid defensively, in particular, especially after the Merengues were down to 10 men.

Arda Guler – 6/10

Guler was a pedestrian for much of the game as Real Madrid attacked mainly down the left flank. A rare start for him was unfortunately not on the best of days, more so because the team defended deep and did not attack much after Mbappe’s red card.

Kylian Mbappe – 3/10

Mbappe looked frustrated since the word go. He had a few heavy touches and was also on the end of some malicious fouls. Eventually, his annoyance got the better of him and a terrible lunge on Antonio Blanco was punished with a straight red card.

Rodrygo Goes – 7.5/10

After an electrifying start to the game down the left wing as he looked determined to make the difference, Rodrygo was pegged back after Mbappe’s sending off into a defensive role and his involvement was resultantly reduced.

Substitutes

Vinicius Junior – 7/10

Vinicius looked like his usual self after coming off the bench for the last 30 minutes. He enforced a red card on the opposition with a late run into the final third and also looked like the player who could kill the game off with his exciting work on the ball.

Jude Bellingham – 6.5/10

Bellingham helped Real Madrid keep control of the game as he won a number of loose balls and led the team forward. He should have scored late on but was denied from close range by the Alaves shot-stopper.

Brahim Diaz – 6/10

Madrid got Brahim on to see out the game. He won a couple of fouls with his hold-up play as the Whites looked to run down the clock while also completing 100% passes as the team aimed to keep control of the ball in the final minutes.

Dani Ceballos – N/A

Ceballos entered the game in stoppage time and was on the pitch for just five minutes as he returned from injury.
