FLW takes a look at three August transfers Norwich City will want to emulate before Deadline Day

Norwich City will be hoping to land a top-six spot under new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup this season after reaching last season's play-offs under former manager David Wagner.

In an attempt to achieve this lofty ambition, Hoff Thorup has been busy in the transfer market, signing the likes of Panama international defender Jose Cordoba and former RB Salzburg midfielder Forson Amankwah.

The Canaries faithful will hope that their club can complete more deals this month before Transfer Deadline Day on Friday August 30th, while FLW takes a look at three successful deals the Norfolk outfit have made in the month of August over the years, and will want to emulate:

Cameron Jerome

The Canaries signed Cameron Jerome from Stoke City, then of the Premier League, in August 2014, and he is one of the most successful summer signings the club have made in modern times.

In his first season at Carrow Road, the striker scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 44 league appearances as Norwich won promotion to the Premier League via the 2014/15 Championship play-offs.

However, Jerome was unable to replicate that sort of form in the top-flight, scoring just three goals during a 2015/16 season in which the Canaries were immediately relegated back to the second tier.

But he was able to prove his worth once again in the following Championship season as he scored 16 goals in 40 outings.

At second tier level, Jerome had a very dangerous eye for goal throughout his time with the Canaries, and the success of his August transfer should always be on the minds of the recruitment team at Carrow Road.

Marcelino Nunez

Current Canaries midfielder Marcelino Nunez has been a solid player for his side since signing for the club in August 2022, and his efforts last season helped guide the Norfolk outfit to the play-offs.

The Chile international made 36 Championship appearances last season, and showcased his quality on the ball with a pass accuracy of 86.9% in the second tier, while he also played 116 accurate long balls last campaign, according to FotMob.

The Carrow Road faithful will hope that Nunez can further develop his game under Hoff Thorup, while his highlight in Norwich colours so far is undoubtedly the long range free-kick he scored during a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Ipswich Town back in April.

The 24-year-old is an example of good business made by the Canaries just two years ago, and supporters will hope that he can find a new level this season.

Nelson Oliveira

The Canaries signed Nelson Oliveira in August 2016 from Portugese giants Benfica, and he established himself as a clinical goalscorer during his first campaign at Carrow Road.

During the 2016/17 Championship campaign, he scored 11 goals in 28 appearances, which was his best ever season tally in the second tier, while he had previously scored nine goals in 2015/16 during a loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

Oliveira went on to score eight goals for the Canaries during the 2017/18 season, but Teemu Pukki's arrival in July 2018 saw him move down the pecking order, so in January 2019, the Portugal international was sent on loan to Reading, and would go on to join AEK Athens on a permanent transfer the following summer.

But Oliveira's successful first season in Norfolk is a strong example of an August signing who made a big impact for the Canaries, and Hoff Thorup would do well to emulate this sort of deal this month.
