Barcelona have been hit with a new hurdle in the case of Dani Olmo’s registration and it is now very unlikely that the player will be able to play in January as it stands.

The Spanish international’s case was heard by a court earlier this week and took into account the stance of Barcelona and La Liga.

In the end, the judgement went against the Spanish side and the player will not be able to play for the club in January unless they make the required changes.

Absent on all fronts

It was initially thought that Olmo would only miss out on Barcelona’s La Liga games owing to the club’s wage bill problem and that his participation in other events may be unperturbed.

SPORT, however, brings to light that the court’s decision is binding on all competitions and that the midfielder cannot participate in the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey or the UEFA Champions League in January as matters stand.

The reason for this latest blow is that the Catalans only processed Olmo’s Federative License until December 31st in June and the license is a pre-requisite to play in any competition.

Had the club processed the federative license, he would be eligible to participate in all competitions barring La Liga and would thus miss only two games. The new development thus comes as a massive blow.

All eyes are thus now on Joan Laporta and Co. to see what they can pull off in the dying days of the year.

Barcelona are under pressure to get the player’s license approved at the very least, for not having Olmo for an entire month would be devastating.
