Canadian FA defends itself in Alphonso Davies injury controversy | OneFootball

The Canadian FA was quick to respond to criticism leveled by Alphonso Davies’ agent yesterday after the Bayern Munich star incurred a season-ending injury whilst on international duty. Quoted in The Athletic, Canadian Soccer Association Paulo Senra defended the decision of the medical and coaching staff to play Davies even though he was carrying an injury.

Such a claim can nevertheless not be found in the cited article, meaning that Kicker may have misread the article or potentially be relying on its own internal sources. The former seems more likely.

“We want to express our full support for our men’s national team captain, Alphonso Davies as he recovers from this unfortunate injury,” Senra is quoted as saying in the Athletic piece. “Phonzie’s strength and resilience matches his world-class talent, and we all look forward to fully supporting him during his recovery.

“Canada Soccer’s coaches and experienced medical staff are true professionals and have always prioritised player safety and well-being,” Senra continues. “Anything suggesting otherwise is untrue.”
