As reported by LDH, Standard Liege head coach was speaking about how valuable on loan Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate is to the club. This came after a revelation that the midfielder has a clause in his loan deal that means the Premier League side can recall the midfielder next month. Both Standard and Alzate are hoping that does not happen however. During the press conference, Hoefkens said that, if it was up to him, he would give Alzate a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old Colombian midfielder spent last season on loan with the side and was one of Standard’s top targets this summer. He returned for another loan spell and has played 10 Pro League games, scoring once and providing two assists. During the 2022/2023 season Alzate played 29 games, scoring three goals and providing five assists. Alzate began his careeer with Leyton Orient before joining Brighton in 2017. He has made 51 appearances for the side, scoring three goals. During the 2018/2019 season he spent half of the campaign on loan with Swindon, where he again scored three goals.
