Celtic have completed the signing of Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels for a reported fee of £11m.
The deal sees the Parkhead club break their transfer record for a second time this summer, following Adam Idah’s £9.5m (including add-ons) move from Norwich.
Engels had been manager Brendan Rodgers’ no.1 choice to replace Matt O’Riley, who left the Scottish champions for Brighton earlier in the week, and the Celtic boss has now got his man.
The 20-year-old, who can also play on the right, leaves Augsburg after 18 months with the Bundesliga side, having joined from Club NXT in January 2023. He made 53 appearances, scoring three times.
While yet to be capped at senior level, Engels has made 10 appearances for Belgium’s Under 21 side.
He is Celtic’s sixth signing of a busy summer, after Idah, Kasper Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo, Paulo Bernardo and Álex Valle.
