On Saturday, in the fiery atmosphere of Hampden Park, Celtic tore Aberdeen to shreds in a 6-0 romp as they clinically dismantled any semblance of a new order in Scottish football.

On Sunday, theRangers huffed and puffed at the same venue, in the same competition, but couldn’t blow Motherwell’s house down until a cruel deflection sent the Ibrox team onto a date with the executioner on Sunday December, 2024. Their words, not mine.

Awash with hysteria and fear

TheRangers social media is awash with hysteria and fear, their fans claiming that they’d rather fall on Motherwell’s sword, than die the ‘death of a thousand cuts’ against Celtic.

Other writers have done a grand job of covering the Aberdeen annihilation, so I won’t go over the fine print again. I will, however, state that the Dons have earned all the accolades thrown at them this season after a series of excellent results.

Celtic were told to be wary, that the 2-2 draw at Celtic Park last week was only a precursor to a bigger challenge from the Reds. Brendan Rodgers had other ideas. He sent his troops out to dispel the myth that we were now on the back foot, and that the Aberdeen are coming!

Aberdeen’s 90 minutes of pure torture

After 90 minutes of pure torture, the Dons were sent homewards to think again! The Celts were in top gear from the off, and Jimmy Thelin’s charges barely laid a meaningful glove on Peter Schmeichel.

They were well and truly routed, but I suspect that this rout will fire them up for the League challenge ahead, and they will have a good, deep look inside their engine to find the leaks, and will aspire to take their campaign to another level.

In dire need of an overhaul

In my humble opinion, It’s theRangers who are looking in dire need of an overhaul, and, quite frankly, I doubt if their 12-year-old jalopy would pass a roadworthy any time soon. They were anything but convincing at Hampden, again, and the ear-shattering boos which rang around the ground at half-time told its own story. They are rank rotten.

Contrast and compare; Celtic fans filled three-quarters of Hampden Park, with tens of thousands locked out, disappointed they could not acquire a brief. Their magnificent pyro show (although I have my reservations about them) displayed the initials of the club, CFC. They were proud to be there.

Next day, the League Cup organisers were frantically calling their Union leaders just before kick-off, asking if theRangers support had gone out on strike!

Thousands of empty seats

On this showpiece occasion, thousands of seats were left alone, jilted if you would, and looking out to see if TheRangers were coming! The flares merely covered up their empty sections, and abject embarrassment, although this is not good for the game, having well under 40,000 at a national semi-final.

Those that came booed, and, courtesy of a deflected boot, they stumbled their way into a League Cup Final versus Celtic, one their fans clearly wished to avoid according to their social media pages.

Now, we cannot get ahead of ourselves and claim victory before the silverware is held aloft by Callum McGregor, but confidence is high around the east-end of Glasgow, so, enjoy the ride. I am.
