Celtic will meet Inverness in the Scottish Cup final after grinding out a 1-0 win over rivals Rangers.
Scorers: Jota 42′
It was a tense affair at Hampden Park as two huge rivals went head to head with silverware on the line but Rangers will not retain their title..
Celtic were in control during the first half, and their attacking line was firing, with three of their four shot attempts on target compared to only one attempt from Rangers, yet struggled to beat goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
However, just before the break, a quick-thinking Daizen Maeda capitalised on his flat-footed opponents, picked up a loose ball and crossed in for Jota to head home.
Coming out into the second half, Rangers ramped up the pressure but Malik Tillman, Alfredo Morelos and the like struggled to find the net despite registering more attempts than Celtic by full-time (13 to nine).
Their closest chance arrived when James Tavernier’s long-range effort hit off the post with about 15 minutes to go, which could have made for a lively finish.
In the end the victory means Ange Postecoglou’s side will now face Inverness in the final to try and lift their first title since 2019-20 and, potentially, the treble.
