Celtic fans have been commenting about this pre-season friendly.

Some interesting perspectives…

Celtic fans comments in advance of the friendly against Newcastle United via their Talk Celtic message board:

‘I’ve got family that support Newcastle, we all went to the last friendly maybe 20 years ago, so hopefully all get to this as well.’

‘I remember going to see the new Celtic Park in a pre season friendly against Newcastle in 1995. Game was rubbish (1-1 I think) but the stadium looked incredible.’

‘I’ll be going to this. Best mate is a Newcastle fan and he’s always wanted to experience Celtic Park. Win win.’

‘Should be good this! Seem to play them every so often in these friendlies – wonder if there is someone within the backroom of both clubs friendly to each other.’

‘I despise Geordie’s.

Shearer

Gazza

Ant and Dec

Geordie shore

Jimmy 5 bellies and their support with the tops off everywhere they go

The accent

The fact they’ve always thought they were a big club when they’re no

Their kit.’

‘Good night out but.’

‘Bet all them Geordies will team up with Huns in Hun bars before game. And watch out for RFC banners in their end.’

‘I’ve always had the feeling most were hun leaning.’

‘That whole region gives me that impression from a distance.’

‘As a whole their support don’t really have a preference of us or them. I know a few of us that support them, and a few huns that do too. It’s not like Chelsea. There’s no more of them than there is in any other club down there.

Plus values wise a lot of the Geordies are more in line with us in Scotland, rather than British.’

‘I remember the game for the North Stand opening, and Ginola getting booed. Then there was the rigged game where we gave them a penalty on purpose to let Shearer score the winner.’

‘I might be mixed up and pulled the wrong memory out of the jumble sale in ma head…..

But was that not Peter Beardsley’s testimonial.

If not it’s similar

I remember something like Beardsley missing a penalty then getting made to re-take it….and scoring….’

‘It happened in both Beardsley and Shearer testimonials.’

‘Ah ok – sorry. Was only at Beardsley’s – which was a cracking day out.’

‘2 similar situations in both games’

‘Testimonials are even a step below friendlies tbf.’

‘Is that the same game that fat Sam Allardyce brought their backup keeper on to play up front?

Another petty reason I can’t stand them.’

‘That’s me close to 27 years here in Gateshead, married into a Toon Army daft family.

Met all types, the majority of toons fans I’ve met are sound, you get the odd roaster here and there, just the same as every other fan base.

Some don’t have a clue what goes on North of the border, just have to teach them a thing or two.

Don’t believe all you read on forums lol

A lot of good people down here by the way.

After years of working all around England, I am glad am here.

As for the rest of England, it is a s…hole far as am concerned.’

‘My da lived with a lassie for years in South Shields and loved it.

He used to basically tell me to shut up when I brought up my dislike of geordies.’

‘The beach front is awesome, same as you venture further south down to Sunderland it’s a beautiful part of the world.’

‘I will defo be coming up the night before as train will be rammed with toon fans, couldn’t be bothered with that.’

’25 quid a ticket plus a booking fee it’s incredible how out of touch the club is. Ah well at least we don’t release 4 kits every season and bring out a new training range every fortnight or increase the price of season books.’

‘£25 for a glorified kick about. They can ram it. Club make some really strange and out of touch decisions. Miles aff it.’

‘Aye they’re certainly raking it in. Ridiculous how much we pay and they still want more. Used to get a couple of friendlies on your season book many moons ago.’

’25 quid to watch the Newcastle reserves lol.

We’re a disgrace.’

’20 quid would be have been ideal for this friendly

it’s a capitalist society nowadays , money to be made and let’s rob the punters.

as normal this is will be built up as an ENG v SCO grudge match.

will be lucky if it’s a sell out with summer holidays lol

the only fans lapping this up are the toon fans

a cracking day out for them as they will sell out there allocation.’

‘One thing I’ll say is ST holders have priority and until June to buy tickets for this. If it was any cheaper, the game probably wouldn’t even go to a general sale.

It’s harder than ever to see Celtic these days. I’ve been once since I gave my season ticket up when I moved. Friendlies shouldn’t be on the season book, because the majority don’t go. This way gives people a chance that wouldn’t normally get to go and they are probably fine paying it if it’s the only game they are going to get to.

Greed is a massive problem, but as long as Celtic get the money they will keep doing this.’

‘Aye there’s absolutely zero added value for the price of a season ticket now. It used to mean the average price of a game was a wee bit cheaper than general sale, or you got a bonus match or two. But now all a ST does is guarantee you your seat, which is pretty poor value for a customer. A 5% increase in prices and I can see quite a lot of folk giving the ST up in the coming years.’

‘Hello – I’m after a bit of advice please – I’m a Hartlepool United fan and always wanted to see a game at Celtic Park, and this is it. I’m going to take my boy but we want to be in the Celtic end, not with Mags fans. Can anyone tell me what our chances are and how I can go about it? many thanks x’

‘Should be able to get tickets, they go on sale to public on June 3rd 10am
