Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers insists that the Scottish Champions are in strong position a going into tonight’s UEFA Champions League clash with Club Brugge. Brendan Rodgers’ side were 4-1 winners at the weekend in the first game after the November International break but they face the Belgians on Matchday Five of Europe’s top competition.

Speaking to the media conference on Tuesday, the USA Internationalist said that he believes his teammates are in the right frame of mind for the crucial UCL meeting as they target progression into the next phase.

“We’re feeling really good and positive, and obviously the weekend’s result was a good one for us. In the second half I thought we played really well, so we’re just looking to build on that.

“Right at the beginning of the competition we kind of outlined how many points we wanted to reach, but since then we’ve just been taking it game by game.

“I think we’re in a strong position at the moment, so it’s just about adding to that points tally and seeing how many we can achieve.

“We feel as a group that we’re probably pretty close to getting out of this group phase of the tournament.

“There are four games left and we want to get positive results in all of them. It’s just us against ourselves now in seeing how many points we can get.”

CCV will likely continue in the central defensive pairing with his compatriot Auston Trusty, who have impressed in recent games together. The star spangled partnership feels unfair on Liam Scales, who has been excellent for the club in the last eighteen months, but there appears to be a better understanding between the USA duo.

Celtic have seven points after four games while their opponents have six points. Celtic have played Pot 1 Home and Away and Pot 2 Away with this tie being the Pot 2 Home tie.
