Celtic are interested in signing Evan Ferguson from Brighton and Hove Albion in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has reported the Celtic “like” the Republic of Ireland international striker, with a potential loan deal mooted.
However, a number of clubs in the Premier League and mainland Europe are interested in a deal for Ferguson, who was described as a “superstar” by former Manchester City defender Micah Richards on BBC Sport in August 2023.
Sky Sports has noted that Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler plans to hold talks with Ferguson about his future.
Ferguson is a player in demand. Everton are interested in the Brighton striker, while Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have also been linked.
It is hard to see Celtic being able to sign the 20-year-old striker even on a loan deal in the January transfer window.
However, if the youngster were to join the Hoops, then he would flourish.
Ferguson is a hugely talented striker, but it is not happening for him in the Premier League at the moment.
The striker has made two starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal in the process.
In the 2023-24 season, Ferguson scored six goals in 1366 minutes of Premier League football, while in 2022-23, he found the back of the net six times in 10 league starts.
Ferguson is only 20, and a spell in Scotland for a few months could boost his confidence.
Celtic are a free-flowing side who score goals for fun, and under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, he could flourish and start scoring regularly again.
With the Glasgow giants also very likely to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, Ferguson could come back to Brighton as a more mature and more confident striker.
