Celtic have received a formal offer from Brighton for midfielder Matt O’Riley and the clubs are ‘locked in talks’ over a deal, according to Sky Sports News.

The Danish midfielder has continued to be put in the team by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers despite being the subject of repeated offers from Italian side Atalanta.

Atalanta have not matched Celtic’s asking price for O’Riley and though they continue to be keen, they now risk losing out on him to Brighton.

Brighton have now gone in with a formal bid for O’Riley, though no deal has yet been agreed.

It is suggested the two clubs are ‘locked in talks’ which will likely continue over the coming days.

Brighton, who started the Premier League campaign with a 4-0 win at Everton, are convinced about O’Riley’s quality and want to snap him up.

Losing O’Riley would be a blow for Celtic, but Brighton feel a deal can be done.

Southampton have also held an interest in O’Riley and it remains to be seen if Saints now make a move to enter the chase.
