Celtic sign Giorgos Giakoumakis from VVV

Celtic have completed the long-awaited signing of Greece international Giorgos Giakoumakis from VVV-Venlo.

The 26-year-old had been at the centre of a transfer tug of war between the Hoops and Werder Bremen but the former have now won the race for his signature.

Giakoumakis has signed a five-year deal at Parkhead and becomes the third Greek player to play for the club after Georgios Samaras and Vasilis Barkas.

Last season, he finished top scorer in the Eredivisie despite VVV’s relegation, netting 26 goals in his only season in the Dutch top flight.

He is expected to replace Odsonne Édouard, who will soon finalise a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace.
