According to a report from Football Scotland, Celtic are interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga, as Neil Lennon looks to add reinforcements to their attacking line-up.
Elsewhere at Riverside stadium, Assombalonga has been linked with a move away from Championship, with Boro looking to raise funds through his transfer. (h/t Football Scotland)
The Congolese man has a contract with the club until 2021.
The Congolese man made his witch to Boro in 2017 and has scored 31 goals since then in all competitions.
A youth product of Premier League club Watford, the African forward’s best ever spells were with Peterborough United and Nottingham Forest, winning the Football League trophy with the latter club, which is his only honour thus far in his career. He bagged a total of 30 goals and 2 assists during his time at Nottingham.
Despite being deployed as a centre-forward most of the time, he can also play at the wings.
The Hoops continued their dominance in Scottish football for one more time in the 2018/19 campaign, winning the treble for the third time in a row.
Their attacking line-up turned out to be a nightmare for the opponents, especially with the presence of Odsonne Edouard.
Being the fulcrum of Lennon’s frontline of attack, the French striker proved to be a revelation, racking up 22 goals and eight assists in his debut season.
In addition, the 21-year-old also proved himself as a big-match player, scoring the winner in one of the Old Firm derbies last season and in a few crucial league and cup games as well.
While it’s almost impossible to beat the likes of Edouard in the playing 11, there must be back-up options alongside Leigh Griffiths, who recently returned to the main team from a brief hiatus.
The Scottish striker’s form will remain suspicious, given that he hasn’t played much for a while now.
With that being said, the Hoops can get a solid back-up option should they sign Boro striker Assombalonga.
The Congolese man has some parts that need to be improved, especially when it comes to his decision-making in the final third.

However, under the guidance of Lennon, and playing for a big club like Celtic, Assombalonga can utilize the opportunities to make a name for himself.
The Hoops haven’t made any big impact in the transfer window so far when compared to their arch-rivals Rangers. Yet, signing the African ace would prove to be a smart move and can help Lennon ease the pressure off primary striker Edouard.
