Scottish Champions Celtic will host Newcastle United on Saturday, July 19, 2025 in a very special pre-season match at Celtic Park.
Scotland and England’s respective League Cup winners will take on one another as they continue their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, and the game will have a competitive edge as both sides look to come out on top and clinch The adidas Trophy.

Newcastle United made history this season when they lifted the Carabao Cup in March, defeating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley. It was a final packed with emotion as Eddie Howe led his side to their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

The joyous scenes that followed in the streets of Newcastle will live long in the memory and the Geordies will make the short journey north to Glasgow in their thousands to take on Scotland’s own League Cup winners, Scottish Champions and hopefully Scottish Cup winners, with the final on Saturday 24 May against Aberdeen fast approaching.

Celtic also enjoyed success in Scotland’s respective competition, adding a 22nd League Cup title to the trophy cabinet in December after another win over theRangers, securing the Premier Sports League Cup for Brendan Rodgers’ team as the Celtic manager continued his own 100% winning record at the national stadium across both his spells as boss at Celtic Park.

It will also give Eddie Howe the chance to sample a taste of Paradise after coming close to becoming the Celtic manager four years ago. No hard feelings Eddie, it worked out just fine for us with Ange Postecoglou winning five trophies from six and Brendan Rodgers four from five with, fingers crossed, one still to come on 24 May.

Not sure when the graphics were put together for this game, presumably before the match at Tannadice when Celtic won the league and Jota picked up an injury that will see him on the sidelines until 2025. Nice though to see him in the graphic shown below.

Anyone remember the days when we used to get a pre-season friendly included in our season tickets package?
