The business end of Europe’s club football has arrived as semi-final second legs across all three tournaments wait in the wings.

Champions League

Europe’s most prestigious club competition takes centre stage this midweek, with both semi-final ties finely poised and everything still to play for.

Inter Milan vs Barcelona

Barcelona and Inter threw a spectacle in last week’s first leg as Estadio Olímpic Lluís Companys formed the backdrop for a breathtaking 3-3 draw, setting the stage for an evenly balanced decider.

Hansi Flick’s free-firing squad defied the absence of marquee striker Robert Lewandowski to haul back a two-goal deficit and maintain their hopes of reaching their first European final since 2014/15.

Though still on course for an unprecedented quadruple, history doesn’t favour Barcelona at Giuseppe Meazza as they’ve only won two semi-final away legs in 15 previous attempts (D2, L11).

Against this backdrop, they have only lost once in 2025, making it for promising reading ahead of a monumental showdown in Milan against a fatigue-hit Inter.

Simone Inzaghi’s side squeaked past Serie A minnows Hellas Verona 1-0 last weekend to halt a dreadful five-match winless streak in all competitions and set themselves up nicely for this fixture.

Inter have remarkably never lost a home match in the Champions League semi-finals, while they boast an intimidating 16-game unbeaten run at Europe’s top table at Meazza (W13, D3).

Their home record against La Liga visitors is equally outstanding (W12, D10, L4), suggesting they could disrupt Los Blaugranas’ quest to win their sixth Champions League title.

Prediction: Inter Milan to progress

Paris Saint-Germain vs Arsenal

History beckons for PSG, whose sights remain firmly locked on Champions League glory after a hard-earned 1-0 first-leg win at the Emirates Stadium.

Luis Enrique’s men are on for a historic treble as they’ve already sealed a record-extending 13th Ligue 1 title and set up the Coupe de France final date against Reims.

Wrapping their hands around the ‘Big Ears’ for the first time remains an essential part of that intricate equation, and tradition backs them to at least enter the showpiece for the first time since 2019/20.

For context, Les Parisiens have impressively progressed from 18 of the last 19 two-legged UEFA competition ties when winning the first leg away from home.

Adding to PSG’s confidence, Arsenal’s torrid record of five eliminations from as many European ties when suffering a first-leg home defeat highlights the size of the task awaiting the Gunners on Wednesday.

Manager Mikel Arteta can take heart from overseeing four consecutive away wins in the Champions League as he bids to inspire the London outfit to their first-ever win in Paris.

Champions League glory is the ceiling of Arsenal’s aspirations this season, but this looks like a tall order for the Premier League runners-up.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to progress

Europa League

An all-English final in Europe’s second-tier competition looks like a virtual certainty after Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur strolled to emphatic first-leg wins.

Bodo/Glimt vs Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs have earned the infamous tag as ‘serial bottlers,’ yet not even Ange Postecoglou’s underperforming side should squander a two-goal cushion against Europa League semi-final debutants.

However, Bodo/Glimt will not go down without a fight, buoyed by the fact they’ve made their way through the knockout stages by winning every home leg this season.

Maintaining that formidable record could be narrowly beyond the Norwegians, who have lost all four previous meetings with Premier League opposition, including a 3-2 defeat to Man Utd this term.

Tottenham would be naive to take Bodo/Glimt’s dismal all-time record against English clubs for granted, knowing Kjetil Knutsen’s men have won all six home games this calendar year.

All Spurs need to do to ensure their first appearance in a European final for the first time since 2018/19 is to avoid losing by a 2+ goal margin for the first time in this Europa League cycle.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur to progress

Manchester United vs Athletic Club

Man Utd seized a numerical advantage at San Mames to set one foot in their first Europa League final since lifting the title in 2016/17 under Jose Mourinho.

In doing so, Ruben Amorim’s charges upheld their unbeaten record in this season’s edition (W8, D5) and are in pole position to salvage a humiliating season by ascending the Europa League throne.

Encouragingly for the Old Trafford faithful, the Red Devils have advanced on all 20 previous occasions after winning the first leg away in a UEFA knockout tie.

Athletic can hardly spoil Man Utd’s perfect track record, not least because they head into proceedings on a three-match winless European run on foreign soil (D1, L2).

On top of that, the Basque giants have never enjoyed visits to these shores, losing seven of their previous nine away clashes against English opponents (W1, D1).

Prediction: Manchester United to progress

Conference League

UEFA’s newest club competition will crown a new champion.

Fiorentina vs Real Betis

After back-to-back defeats in the Conference League finals, Fiorentina could miss out on the title-deciding fixture after slumping to a 2-1 loss in the first leg at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Raffaele Palladino’s side must overcome an ominous-looking record against Spanish opposition, having won just two of their 15 previous encounters (D4, L9).

There’s a silver lining, as both those wins came at Stadio Artemio Franchi, where they haven’t lost a competitive fixture since mid-February (W5, D2).

Betis will be out to shatter Fiorentina’s home fortress and spoil the Italians’ perfect record across 16 previous Conference League knockout ties (W16).

Los Verdiblancos will travel in high spirits after only losing once in their last nine Conference League matches (W6, D2), looking to strengthen their eye-catching for against Serie A rivals.

Unbeaten in their last six meetings with Italian clubs (W4, D2), Betis seem well-positioned to become the first-ever Spanish side to contest a Conference League final.

Prediction: Real Betis to progress

Chelsea vs Djurgarden

High-flying Chelsea cruised to a statement 4-1 win in Sweden last week to live up to their tag as odds-on favourites to win Europe’s third-tier competition.

Enzo Maresca’s side followed up on that victory with a crucial 3-1 home triumph against newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday, making it four wins on the spin in all competitions.

Only a miracle can stop the Blues from reaching the grand final, but three consecutive home wins against Swedish opposition via an aggregate score of 8-0 all but seal their place in the Wroclaw showpiece.

You need to look at the Swedes’ overall performance in European football to better understand the scale of the challenge awaiting Djurgarden in West London.

Not even a record-breaking 11th European win in a single season may be enough for Jani Honkavaara’s side to overturn a hefty first-leg deficit and rewrite history books.

None of Djurgarden’s wins in the competition proper have been large enough to bridge the gap.

Prediction: Chelsea to progress
