Celtic have an edge in the race to sign Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels because of being in the Champions League, according to Sky Sports News.

Engels has emerged as the priority target for the Scottish champions in final two weeks of the transfer window.

He has been extensively scouted by the club’s recruitment department and the Bhoys are pushing to take him to Parkhead before the window closes.

The Belgium Under-21 international has three years left on his contract and is valued at £9m by the Bundesliga club.

Rennes are interested in signing him as well but it has been claimed that he would prefer a move to Celtic.

The Scottish champions have the edge in the race as the player wants to play in the Champions League.

Celtic are pressing hard to get an agreement done with Augsburg to take the midfielder to Glasgow.

There is still work to do but Champions League football has given Celtic a leg up in the race to sign Engels.
