It’s been another busy 24 hours in the summer transfer window, with clubs in the Championship looking to add to their squads before the new league campaign gets underway.
The curtain-raiser in the second-tier is on Friday 6th August, when AFC Bournemouth host West Brom, in what is likely to be a closely-fought battle between the two teams at the Vitality Stadium.
Clubs in the Championship will be keen to have the majority of their transfer business concluded ahead of their first matches of the 2021/22 season, as they look to make a positive start to the campaign.
We take a look at the latest transfer news from the Championship in the last 24 hours.
Premier League duo enter race to sign Swansea midfielder
Watford and Brighton and Hove Albion have entered the race to sign Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes, according to a recent report from Football Insider.
The Daily Mail had previously revealed that reported that Fulham were set to sign Grimes, but this recent update appears to pour cold water on that claim.
Nottingham Forest eyeing move for striker
Nottingham Forest are believed to be keen on signing M’Baye Niang, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
However, the Reds won’t have it all their way when it comes to negotiating a deal to sign the Stade Rennais forward, with Celtic, Anderlecht and Venezia also rumoured to be interested in signing the former AC Milan forward.
Midfielder on trial with Derby County
Former Arsenal and West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere is rumoured to be training with Derby County ahead of the 2021/22 season, according to The Times.
Wilshere was most recently with AFC Bournemouth, and made 44 appearances for the Cherries, as they missed out on promotion into the Premier League, after a defeat to Brentford in their play-off semi-final.
However, it’s not concrete information that Wilshere is training with the Rams, with DerbyshireLive’s Steve Nicholson claiming that the former England international wasn’t training with Wayne Rooney’s side.
West Ham make their move for West Brom star
West Ham have reportedly submitted an offer of £15million for West Brom midfielder Matheus Pereira, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
Pereira caught the eye with a number of strong performances last season, although his efforts weren’t enough to see the Baggies avoid relegation into the Championship.
Konur claims that the West Brom are wanting a fee in the region of £25million this summer though.
Woodman unlikely to move to AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth were previously credited with interest in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, but a move is likely to be a long away from being finalised at this moment in time.
The Athletic have recently revealed that Woodman is likely to be on standby with the Magpies ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, which will come as a frustrating update for Bournemouth’s supporters.
Swansea outcast set to depart
Swansea City midfielder George Byers is set to sign for Sheffield Wednesday, according to a report from Yorkshire Live.
Byers has made 65 appearances in total for the Swans, but looks set to depart in favour of a move to Hillsborough with Darren Moore’s side this summer, as they target promotion back into the Championship.
Barnsley close to finalising deal for PL talent
Barnsley are said to be close to reaching an agreement to sign Burnley midfielder Josh Benson, according to Lancashire Live.
BBC Sheffield’s Andy Giddings has recently revealed that Benson is set for a medical with the Yorkshire-based side, with a fee agreed for his services.
Benson has made 12 first-team appearances for the Clarets, but is set to sign for the Tykes ahead of the 2021/22 season, as he goes in search of regular minutes in senior football, which Barnsley can seemingly offer him in the near future.
Derby man set for summer exit
Derby County forward Bobby Duncan has reportedly arrived in Denmark for talks with Vejle Boldklub ahead of the new season, according to Football Insider.
Duncan has been restricted to just one senior appearance for the Rams since signing for the club back in 2020, from Liverpool, and is reportedly set to depart the club in the near future, with a fee being agreed between both clubs for Duncan’s services.
Forest name their price for defender
Nottingham Forest are said to be wanting a fee of £700,000 to sell defender Jordan Gabriel this summer, according to The Mirror’s James Nursey.
Blackpool have been rivalling League One side Sunderland to a potential deal for the full-back, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they’re to match Forest’s valuation of the defender.
