The search at the MKM Stadium for the club's next first-team boss have advanced since the official departure of Selles last week.

A number of names have been linked with the vacant Hull City position, and interviews have been held.

Selles was binned after just six months with the club. They were under serious threat of being relegated when the 41-year-old joined. He led them to safety, albeit by a small margin, but the Tigers determined that a change needed to be made in order "to move the team forward in line with our ambitions."

Reading's former boss has reportedly appeared on the radars of a lot of EFL clubs since it emerged that his position as Hull's manager was under threat.

Hull receive Miron Muslic appointment blow

Two of the prominent figures to be linked with replacing him were Emre Belozoglu and Plymouth's Miron Muslic.

Hull owner Acun Ilicali admitted that Belozoglu, an ex-Newcaslte United player, was set to receive an interview for the job after he emerged as a shock contender, but fans have threatened to boycott the club if they were to bring him in, and he now appears to be out of the race.

Muslic, who, despite being relegated, impressed the Championship with the job he did at Home Park to almost keep Argyle up, was reported to be the club's favoured option by Darren Witcoop, but Hull Live have reported that their chances of landing the Austrian are unlikely.

More interviews are set to take place on Monday and Tuesday, as per the Humberside outlet, with the hope that a successor to Selles will be found potentially by the end of the week.

Up to five candidates are in the race, as per Hull Live, with two of them said to have experience in the Championship. One of those people could be Tony Mowbray, who was linked with City shortly after being sacked by West Bromwich Albion.

Will Still emerged as a potential option for Hull after he announced that he will leave RC Lens at the end of the season to come back across the channel, but Southampton are in advanced talks with him, as per talkSPORT.

There is a fine line to be walked when looking to appoint a new boss.

Too quick and you may be seen to be panicking, too slow, and you may be perceived to be wasting time and missing out on opportunities.

But, ultimately, regardless of what speed the Tigers make the decision at, it must be the right one.

Given their recent history of bringing in and getting rid of leaders over the past year, there is no question that the key decision-makers at the MKM will be under pressure to get this right. At least a quick decision will allow them to get started with their summer action, though.

It would give Selles' successor time to assess the squad, identify the gaps and try to find players to cover for those weaker areas.
