Charlotte FC appear keen to continue backing manager Dean Smith as they are reportedly 'in talks' to sign Miguel Almirón from Newcastle United.
According to MLS insider Tom Bogert, a total package upwards of $10 million could 'get the job done', though the Premier League club wanted $20 million for the Paraguayan last summer.
Saudi club Al-Shabab are also said to be interested in signing Almirón, but the winger prefers a move back to MLS where he had previous success.
The 30-year-old starred for Atlanta United as they captured MLS Cup in 2018, finishing that campaign with 12 goals and 13 assists on his way to becoming an MLS MVP finalist.
Having achieved consistent defensive solidity under Dean Smith last season, Charlotte have been keen to add attacking stars to their ranks as they look to climb towards the top of the table in the Eastern Conference.
Almirón would occupy Charlotte's final remaining Designated Player spot, though the Carolina club can make moves to free up another.
