Chelsea have been linked with numerous sales ahead of a January that looks set to have far more outgoing than incomings
The first part of the season saw the Blues use an almost totally separate A team in the Premier League and B team in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage (and in the Carabao Cup). That made room for 22 starters and another 5 or so regularly used subs across all 3 competitions.
Now that we enter the second part of the season, we reach the business end of those cups, and the teams Enzo Maresca plays in those competitions look likely to become more similar.
So that 22 plus 5 becomes maybe 18 or so players, plus a few youngsters happy to just play minutes here and there off the bench. That means there need to be players moved on to release the pressure of fewer starts to go around.

The names most likely to go are well established by now: Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell, Harvey Vale, and almost forgotten young midfield destroyer Alex Matos to name just a few.
What is perhaps underrated is the amount of cash the Blues could bring in – if they get the speculative £40m they want for Chukwuemeka and smaller sums for Casadei and the others, they could be talking close to £100m just on unwanted squad players sold off next month.
Even if they just average £20m on those 5 players, that’s a cool £100m to come in and salve our FFP and PSR numbers. There could be various others on the way out too, or perhaps loans turned permanent. With no need to buy, the club are almost certain to have a profitable January.
