Chelsea have a real striker crisis on their hands right now as news broke that Nicolas Jackson will now be out until April.
The season ends soon after that so by the time he recovers, trains for a bit, and gets back on the pitch, he wont have much more of a part to play in this season.
Chelsea are also without Marc Guiu, who is looking like he could be absent for a similar amount of time as Jackson due to injury as well.
Chelsea are apparently confident in the options they have to cover Jackson and Guiu but really, let’s be frank, there aren’t any! At least if you are looking for pure number 9s. Christopher Nkunku is a 10 and has been so poor when asked to play as a 9. Cole Palmer is an attacking midfielder as well and ideally we don’t need him isolated up front by himself. And then you are going to have to dig into the academy to find another 9.
Diego Costa back to The Bridge?
Chelsea fans have noticed that former striker Diego Costa is available as a free agent and maybe it is time to bring him back.
Costa is far from the incredible striker he was when he was at Chelsea, but I say do it. Why not? Bring him until the end of the season to help out, what is there to lose? If he’s so bad and can’t even be a focal point up top or be a target to aim for in the box, then use your options that you are apparently so confident with instead. But why not give Costa a shot? At least he is a pure 9 and in fact, he is the last fully successful pure 9 this club actually had and he left in 2017!
Do it!
