Chelsea defender Aniek Nouwen has joined Italian club AC Milan on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Nouwen joined Chelsea from Dutch club PSV in summer 2021. The 23-year-old gradually eased her way into the team last season but playing opportunities have become more limited this term. Nouwen has made just four appearances for The Blues in 2022/2023. The player needs some game time and she will get that in Italy with loan club AC Milan.

The defender very much remains a part of the long-term plan at Chelsea and the club have shown their commitment towards her by agreeing a new long-term deal.

Following this morning’s announcement, Chelsea’s general manager Paul Green said “We are delighted that Aniek has extended her contract with the club. Aniek is one of the best young defenders in the world, who needs to keep developing and we see this as a great opportunity for her.

“Emma (Hayes) and I are looking forward to seeing her add even more experience to her game at AC Milan over the upcoming months.”

Nouwen joins an AC Milan side who are currently fifth in the Serie A Femminile.
